I’m searching for the next opportunity to continue my career in IT leadership while simultaneously establishing a people-first business providing a path to approachable open source solutions for entrepreneurs and small/medium businesses.
As an experienced systems architect/engineer/administrator and hands-on leader, I inspire teams through mutual trust and leading by example to manage projects across all aspects of IT including: cybersecurity, network administration, cloud computing, compliance, configuration management, and automation. I take pride in implementing the right solution for the job and have experience implementing many commercial solutions in addition to being the Linux and open source guy.
I am a constant learner, always collecting new input to fuel my continuous stream of (often futuristic) ideas that I enjoy communicating to others in ways that spark innovation. Overall, it is my personal mission to continually integrate new ideas and share them to inspire people to act. In my vision, these ideas unite people to work together for the common good.
Previous accomplishments
Virtual Labs at UMBC Training Centers
There are so many projects I could highlight from my 8+ years working at UMBC Training Centers, but there’s one that stands out in particular. As COVID hit and everything started to shut down, the team and I had to act swiftly to pivot to 100% virtual/remote training. I lead an effort by the team to implement a system for fully remote computer lab environments. While we had a few pieces of the puzzle, it was an impressive feat to accomplish in less than three weeks! The system is completely web-based and provides self-service registration to the students. My former colleague, Zach Ogden, posted some of the technical details on his website.

Content Creation: Cool Tech Tools / Cool AI Tools
My passion for sharing ideas with others has been pushing me to get into some form of content creation. I’ve considered everything from starting a YouTube channel to hosting a podcast or perhaps simply writing a blog. Of several possible topics, the most promising has been to create content around technology tools with the goal of informing people about the latest technology while also highlighting some lesser known applications and stacks to connect individuals and entrepreneurs to the tools they need to succeed. This idea is likely to resurface in various ways as I launch and grow an open source solutions business.
Website Tool
In iterating on this personal website I settled on a workflow based on Git and Hugo. I realized that given my expertise in automation and infrastructure I could use this process to quickly stand up simple websites for other businesses. I considered working on refining my process into a solution that is even simpler to use and produces better results than the “AI site builders” so many hosting companies are touting lately. It’s possible this idea could show up again while implementing open source solutions, but it is not an area of focus.
YiP
I presented at a pitch competition in early December of 2023 for or a “YouTube into Podcast” project, but put it on hold indefinitely to focus on other endeavors.
